Air quality and transport

While Leighton Buzzard may not be a metropolis, its rapid expansion over the years has brought more traffic to the area. This could be bad news for the quality of the air we breathe, which is why campaigning for better transport and cleaner air has never been more important to us.

Cleaning up our air with sustainable transport

We’ve been campaigning for many years to make Leighton Buzzard and the wider district an area that’s easy and safe to get around by bike, bus or by walking. This is to help reduce congestion and promote cleaner air for everyone.

Supporting safe, practical, low-cost realistic alternatives like walking, cycling and better buses could help cut traffic, reduce congestion and improve air quality, as well as benefit our local businesses.

For instance, we’ve focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of engine idling, implemented air pollution gauges at various locations around town to monitor air quality, and asked Leighton-Linslade Town Council to add notices about engine idling to its electronic news boards around town.
