Three members of South Beds Friends of the Earth manned a pop-up stall outside Waitrose last Friday, to hand out information about the insulation project we’re involved in, and to collect signed letters to our MP Alex Mayer, asking her to sign the Stop Rosebank Pledge during the Week of Action on Rosebank.
They handed out background information about the Rosebank oil field in the North Sea, and asked people about their key concerns (if they had any). As usual, there were a number of hostile comments (“Don’t agree – we need more oil drilling”; “Climate crisis is not true”), but many other people took a moment to think about it and then expressed concern about the impact of oil fields on the environment, and on making the climate crisis worse. A lot of people with children and grandchildren worried about the impact on them.
21 letters were signed and were handed to Alex Mayer at the International Women’s Day coffee morning the next day.
