Want to know how we’ll meet our decarbonisation targets? Come to our climate and renewable energy talk on Saturday 7 October to hear from three industry experts.
The talk at All Saints Church, Leighton Buzzard, is your chance to hear from experts on the challenges and solutions to provide renewable energy to help the UK meet its targets to decarbonise the grid by 2035.
The speakers are:
- John Fairlie, Managing Director, AW Renewables
- Paul de Zylva, Senior Policy Advisor, national Friends of the Earth
- Neil Witney, Senior Policy Advisor, Local Net Zero Team, Government Department of Energy Security and Net Zero
The talks will look at the renewable picture local and nationally, to give you insights on projects and policy. The Leighton Buzzard grid very constrained, so it’s difficult to get enough power for charging electric cars and heating homes via heat pumps. Connecting renewables is also difficult, and some solar farms need to wait 10 years before connection.
This is where AW Renewables come in. They’ve implemented the Heath and Reach wind turbine and are working on future local renewable energy projects, including a new wind turbine and solar farm and battery on the A5. Their solutions could be very helpful with local decarbonisation, with the latest project powering charging for six electric buses and rapid charging for cars. A new cafe at the site will mean electric car owners can watch the wind turbine powering their car while enjoying a coffee. AW Renewables are also in the process of applying for a similar solar farm and turbine in Astral Park.
The policy angle is likely to be very interesting, particularly as the government is facing fresh legal challenges from national Friends of the Earth for its ‘inadequate’ climate strategy.
Doors open at 9.45am, with talks starting at 10am. We’ll have time for tea, coffee and questions from around 11:15am.
