Knaves Hill hedge runs along the curve of the road on the right-hand side, as it runs along the top of the railway embankment.
We started planting the hedge in 2008 on poor clay soil. For the first four years the shrubs looked very small, but then they started to grow and the hedge is now very mature and successful. The hedge consists of a wide range of species which provide nectar and pollen for bees, and nesting and hibernating sites for insects, animals and birds.
